The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) today issued the following statement following the submission of comments to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on their New Era of Smarter Food Safety:

“The passage and implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act was a watershed moment for food safety in the United States. But continuous improvement of our food safety culture is critical, particularly as digital technologies evolve. Expeditious communication, enhanced collaboration with stakeholders like state departments of agriculture, and increased consumer-facing food safety are all tenants of taking us to the next level of safe food in the future.”

NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association which representants the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories. NASDA grows and enhances agriculture by forging partnerships and creating consensus to achieve sound policy outcomes between state departments of agriculture, the federal government and stakeholders.
