Challenges lay ahead for grain elevators as they buy basis on corn, soybeans and wheat at the highest level in years. The high basis is due to limited pipeline supplies and a lack of the farmer selling due to an uncertain fall harvest. A new report from CoBank’s Knowledge Exchange division has all the details. “In addition to having to buy more expensive basis, grain elevators are being compelled to offer farmers a range of incentives to sell bushels,” said Tanner Ehmke, manager of CoBank’s Knowledge Exchange division.
