National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) President & North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring issued the following statement today after passage of the Farm Workforce Modernization Act (FWMA) by the U.S. House of Representatives:

“We thank the House of Representatives for taking such quick action on this solution for our farm workforce challenges.  This bill is the culmination of months of negotiating and finding compromises on a bipartisan bill that will successfully increase access to agriculture labor across the country. We encourage the Senate to follow suit and help solve this labor crisis.”

“We know the tremendous challenges of agriculture labor requires a multi-faceted approach. As agriculture producers across the country continue to face extreme headwinds, we strongly underscore that any progress is a step in the right direction.”

NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association which represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries, and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories.  NASDA grows and enhances agriculture by forging partnerships and creating consensus to achieve sound policy outcomes between state departments of agriculture, the federal government, and stakeholders.
