Following today’s announcement of a Phase One trade deal between the United States and China by the U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) CEO Dr. Barbara P. Glenn issued the following statement:

“For too long, unjustified trade barriers have prevented U.S. food and agricultural producers from fully meeting consumer demand in China. Addressing these barriers is the key to enhancing market access for U.S. products and paving the way for increased U.S. exports. NASDA looks forward to reviewing the details of the Phase One agreement and will work closely with the Administration to ensure China is held accountable to their commitments.”

NASDA represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries, and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories.  NASDA grows and enhances agriculture by forging partnerships and creating consensus to achieve sound policy outcomes between state departments of agriculture, the federal government, and stakeholders.
