COUNTY EXTENSION AGENT REPORTS
December weather has been highly variable with near normal
temps early in the month and ending with unseasonable warm
temperatures. Precipitation for the month was near to slightly
below normal at around 4.5" for the month. Main farm activities
include tending livestock, equipment maintenance, and planning
for 2020.
Stanley Holloway – Yancey County Extension

Hay supplies are already short, with many people looking around
to find suitable hay supplies. Wheat is doing fair, with no issues
reported. Soil moisture is getting back to normal with the fall rains
and showers replenishing moisture. December started with some
cool weather, but recently temperatures have been unseasonably
warm.
Paul Westfall – Granville County Extension

Rainfall and temperatures above normal. Warm and wet winter
continues.
Robert Hawk – Jackson/Swain County Extension

A few showers and mild temperatures have allow some field work
to progress.
Daniel Simpson – Pamlico County Extension

Frequent rainfall and high humidity delaying harvest of remaining
soybean fields. Some farmers still taking soil samples. Otherwise,
little field work has been done.
