 Facebook is teaming with MCNC, the builder and operator of the state-wide fiber-based North Carolina Research and Education Network, to expand the availability of high-speed internet in western North Carolina. The addition of some 100 miles of fiber being built by Facebook will connect with MCNC to make broadband available to a variety of community institutions such as schools, medical facilities and government offices in five counties:
