The NC Soybean Variety Selection Tool developed by the NC Soybean Producers Association has now been updated with the 2019 NC State OVT Data.

We encourage users to use multi-year data (3-yr or 2-yr) for variety selections when possible. Due to the rapid turnover of soybean varieties, this is not always possible. When the multi-year data is not available for a variety of interest, use the statewide single-year data before looking at the localized OVT data. We now have a consistency rating available in the tool. The consistency rating captures the percentage of the time a variety performs in the top yield group. The consistency rating is an excellent way to access how often this variety performs well across the state.

The following variety characteristics have been updated when the information was readily available: frogeye leaf spot, stem canker, sudden death syndrome, soybean cyst nematode, root knot nematode, shatter, lodge, flower color, pubescence color, hilum color, and pod wall color. This information was taken directly from the company technology sheets or publicly available release information.

You can find some guidelines about using the tool at this tutorial developed by the NC Soybean Producers Association. The Soybean Variety Selection tool will NOT work with Internet Explorer. Please use Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or another alternative browser when using this tool.

If you have any questions about how to use the tool please reach out to your County Extension Agent. They have been trained on using the Soybean Variety Selection Tool.
