Just weeks after New Year’s Day a few years ago, farmer Ken Dawson studied his blooming blueberry bushes with concern. Dawson, who farms at Maple Spring Gardens in Cedar Grove, North Carolina, typically harvests blueberries in the middle of spring, when the weather is warmer and winter frosts are over. That year, however, prolonged and early warm spells were confusing his crops.
