Supreme Court signals it will allow Atlantic Coast Pipeline to cross under Appalachian Trail

A majority of justices on the U.S. Supreme Court appeared to be willing to clear the way Monday for an $8 billion natural gas pipeline to cross under the Appalachian Trail. Dominion Energy Inc. and Duke Energy Corp. want to build the Atlantic Coast Pipeline from West Virginia to North Carolina. It would run under the Appalachian Trail in Virginia's George Washington National Forest.In December 2018, after environmentalists sued to stop the project, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the U.S. Forest Service did not have the authority to grant the pipeline right of way under the trail, according to the Washington Post.
