United Food and Commercial Workers have sealed two new contracts covering workers at two Smithfield Foods facilities, the union announced yesterday.
One contract covers 1,800 employees of Smithfield/Farmland Foods in Crete, Neb., and about 250 employees at Smithfield Armour Eckrich in Mason City, Ia.
In Mason City, the new four-year contract includes wage increases of $1.40 over the term of the contract, and improves health care benefits, vacation pay, retirement and sick pay. And in Crete, the new four-year contract includes wage increases of at least $1.50 over the term of the contract. and improvements in health care, retirement and working conditions, the union said.
