Today NASDA CEO Dr. Barb Glenn released the following statement in response to the UK’s publication of their negotiating objectives for a trade deal with the U.S.:

“State departments of agriculture are eager to increase trade opportunities with the U.K. An ambitious trade agreement will create a win-win situation for farmers, ranchers, and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic.

“The U.S. shares the U.K.’s commitment to upholding the highest level of food safety, animal welfare, and environmental standards. American farmers and ranchers produce safe, high-quality products that are enjoyed by consumers around the world – and we are doing it with less resources than ever before.  As negotiations continue, we also hope the U.K. will take their commitments to internationally-recognized agricultural trade standards seriously.”

NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association which representants the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories. NASDA grows and enhances agriculture by forging partnerships and creating consensus to achieve sound policy outcomes between state departments of agriculture, the federal government and stakeholders.
