A short recreation flounder fishing season begins later this year In an effort to replenish the population of Southern flounder in coastal waters, the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries closed commercial and recreation flounder fishing in September. They’ve now announced that a recreational season will begin on Aug. 16 and continue through Sept. 30. A commercial fishing season hasn’t been determined yet, said Tricia Smith, a spokesperson for the division.
