N.C. high on list of community hospitals vulnerable to closing

Thirty percent of North Carolina’s rural community hospitals, 15 out of 50, are considered as vulnerable to closing because of potential financial shortfalls, according to a national study released last week. The report from the Chicago-based Chartis Center for Rural Health listed six N.C. hospitals as “most vulnerable,” while nine others are “at risk.”
