March 1-7 is officially National Weights and Measures Week, which may have some of you scratching your heads and asking what that is. The week commemorates President John Adams signing of the first United States weights and measures law on March 2, 1799. The easiest way to understand this is to know that these laws help ensure fairness in trade through the inspection of such devices as price scanners, commercial scales and gas pumps.
