Study finds no disparity in MFP payments

A study just published by Texas A&M University finds “little validity” to the argument of regional disparity in the Trump administration’s trade aid program. Some, including Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MI), have argued that the second round of Market Facilitation Payments (MFP) was biased toward Southern states. The Agricultural and Food Policy Center survey reports that most of the variability in county payment rates under MFP can be explained by the underlying damage assessments and the distribution of planted acres in the respective counties.
