Hungry for chicken in the U.S.-U.K. deal

Nearly 50 House Republicans are urging the Trump administration to strike an agreement that opens the British market to more U.S. poultry products. The two countries are expected to launch trade talks at the end of this month. Out of the total $4.2 billion in American poultry exports last year, just $420,000 was shipped to the U.K., per USDA statistics. 

All about chlorine chicken: The U.K. follows EU regulations banning imports of poultry meat cleaned with chlorinated antimicrobial washes or other treatments. The Trump administration is trying to persuade London to follow a different course, but the U.K. has declared it “will not compromise” its food safety or animal welfare standards to reach a deal with the U.S.
