Budding apple crop could be threatened if cold snap occurs in Henderson County

Early varieties of apple crop are starting to bloom in Henderson County due to warmer temperatures, which could pose a threat to growers if a cold snap occurs. County Cooperative Extension Director Terry Kelley said he has started to see early varieties of apple crops bloom due to the warmer temperatures. He said it’s the third year in a row Henderson County has been in the situation where temperatures have warmed up, causing the crop to emerge from dormancy, while knowing cold weather is somewhere down the road.
