Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas say they will not disconnect customers for failing to pay bills during the coronavirus pandemic as utilities owned by Duke Energy Corp. announce steps they are taking to protect customers and employees. “As a part of our community and a provider of an essential service, we are here to support our customers during this difficult time,” says spokesman Neil Nissan. “Since many of our customers may be facing unusual financial hardship, we are suspending disconnects for nonpayment effective immediately.”
