A coronavirus is a type of virus that can cause respiratory illness in humans and animals. In 2019, a new coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2 emerged in Wuhan, China, and quickly spread around the world. An infection with the new coronavirus causes a respiratory disease called COVID-19. As with most viruses, the incubation period of SARS-CoV-2 can vary from person to person.
