The nearly 90-year-old farm near Wilmington has seen demand for its product plummet due to the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic. Spring is in full bloom at Castle Hayne Farms, one of the largest producers of fresh flowers on the East Coast. Under greenhouse roofs, expanses of irises, lilies and more offer vibrant displays of blues, pinks and yellows. But the beauty of the scene belies a sobering reality: Demand for flowers has dropped off the shelf since the onset of the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.
