The Smithfield Foods pork processing plants in Tar Heel and Clinton remain operational, but company officials would not say if the closure of a facility in South Dakota could have an impact here. Smithfield Foods announced Sunday that it was closing its plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, until further notice after hundreds of workers tested positive for the coronavirus.
