Area farmers still recovering from the lingering effects of Hurricane Florence have been hit with another, far different storm in the form of COVID-19. According to local agriculture experts, the impact of the virus is proving equally disastrous for local growers. Craven County Extension Agent Mike Carroll said local grain, cotton and tobacco farmers were impacted quickly with a steep drop in commodity prices. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, crops such as grains and cotton were on pace to see very little profit.
