Both Republicans and Democrats are concerned the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus' impact on the agriculture industry is too little, too late, writes our Ryan McCrimmon this morning . It will be weeks before farmers who are culling herds, dumping milk and destroying vegetables will see anything from the $19 billion agricultural rescue plan as officials strain to get the stimulus program off the ground.

Many lawmakers have called for eliminating the payment limits on relief checks for farmers because they're worried the cap would crush certain sectors of the industry that have been hardest hit by the pandemic, like livestock and dairy farmers or fresh produce growers, because of how their operations are structured or their high production costs. But Perdue has said the aid restrictions would help USDA assist more producers.

The biofuels industry is also clamoring for a boost. The free fall in fuel consumption has crushed demand for ethanol, which oil refiners are required to blend into the U.S. gasoline pool. The ethanol industry has now shuttered half of its production capacity.
