Sen. Thom Tillis: Update on North Carolina response to coronavirus
Story Date: 5/5/2020

As we continue to respond to the coronavirus pandemic, I know many families and small businesses are suffering, and I share the urgency to begin the process of reopening parts of our economy as soon as it is safe. I want to make sure you have the information and resources that are available to you.

Many hardworking North Carolinians have already received, and continue to receive, their Economic Impact Payment through direct deposit or a check. The IRS has launched an updated site, including frequently asked questions about Economic Impact Payments. You can visit the website here

If you filed your 2018 or 2019 tax return and have not yet received your direct payment, you can check the status of your Economic Impact Payment here

Anyone who receives a Social Security check or disability check will receive their payment consistent with how they already receive their check through direct deposit or a check in the mail. If you're a Social Security recipient who does not file a tax return, you do NOT need to take any action in order to receive your check. Click here to learn more.

For many independent contractors and self-employed individuals who are out of work because of COVID-19, assistance is now available. You can apply for federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance here

To continue my efforts to keep North Carolinians informed, I will be holding more telephone town halls this upcoming week to discuss the federal response to coronavirus and efforts to protect the physical and economic health of North Carolinians.

You can live stream all telephone town halls
here.

Tuesday, May 5 @ 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, May 7 @ 11:30 a.m.

Friday, May 8 @ 10:10 a.m.

These times are subject to change so please visit my website for updates. https://www.tillis.senate.gov/upcoming-telephone-town-halls

Thank you for reading, and as always please reach out to my office if you have any questions or need help with a federal agency and please stay safe.

All the best,
