NC State Feed Milling Extension has launched a new online training course for animal food safety.

The Qualified Individual Training for Animal Food Safety course is intended for anyone who must comply with CFR 507.4: Qualifications of individuals who manufacture, process, pack, or hold animal food.

The course is free and should be used to supplement facility-specific training.

About the course
This course meets part of the training requirements in the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Preventive Controls for Animal Food (PCAF) rule.

This course meets the requirements in CFR 507.4 2.b.2: training in principles of animal food hygiene, using the specific areas listed in 507.14 for personnel in Subpart B of the CGMP regulation.

There are five sections of this training:
• Personal Cleanliness
• Handwashing
• Securing Objects
• Storing Objects and
• Other Precautions

Each module has an optional overview video, followed by a lesson and activities. Each module has a quiz to complete before you can move to the next module.

Participants will be tested on the content of the course and must get at least 80% correct on each quiz to move to the next module. After completing the training course, participants will receive a certificate of completion that can be saved electronically or printed and placed in their personnel files.

In addition to the training, the course includes an optional tracking sheet to document the employees who have completed the training course and have been issued certificates of completion. The tracking sheet should include information to identify the facility in order to meet the record-keeping requirements.
