Wet fields troublesome for Wilson County farmers

Farmers like rain — but not as much as they got last week. “Last Monday we got 2 inches of rain, and we got 5 inches of rain last Tuesday,” said farmer Kevin Gardner of Gardner Farms. “The 7 inches of rain we got last week, it didn’t do us any favors. We’ve got a lot of drowned spots. Tobacco is suffering; cucumbers are suffering. We need some warm, timely dry weather. We need some timely rain with some warm, drier weather.” Ricky Webb of Webb Family Farms said he’s only been able to work eight days in the last four weeks.
