Short-lived clouds of black smoke have been rising around Wilson County as farmers burn off straw from harvested wheat fields. “I burn off all of it to get rid of the straw,” said Tanner Eason of D&T Eason Farms.  Eason watched as 40 acres of rented wheat field went up in flames Wednesday after workers Silverio Perez and Lupe Avalos used drip torches to set the dry straw on fire and pull the fire across the combustible stems off Webb Lake Road west of Macclesfield.  Eason Farms had 325 acres of wheat this year and burned every field.
