 “The USDA’s June Acreage Report released today captures North Carolina farmer’s estimated harvested acres for 2020,” said Dee Webb, North Carolina State Statistician.

“North Carolina farmers have once again stepped up to provide this essential information and ensured quality data was provided for the report. We understand farmers are dealing with many issues in the agriculture industry and we thank them for their continued support.”

• Corn plantings are expected to total 1.02 million acres in 2020, up 3% from 2019.

• Cotton growers intend to plant 370,000 acres in 2020, down 27% from last year.

• Flue-cured tobacco growers expect to harvest 92,000 acres in 2020, down 21% from 2019.

• Burley tobacco growers expect to harvest 300 acres in 2020, down 25% from last year.

• Soybean plantings, at 1.6 million acres, are expected to increase 4% from 2019.

• Peanut growers intend to plant 105,000 acres in 2020, up 1% from the planted acreage in 2019.

• Hay producers expect to cut 774,000 acres in 2020, down 5% from the 2019 estimate.

• Winter wheat plantings totaled 460,000 acres, up 59% from last year.
