From Beaufort County Extension Director Rod Gurganus:

The pandemic has done something that hurricanes, mosquitos, and heat have never done…

The 50th Annual “Blackland Farm Managers Tour” has been canceled. It will be a virtual event this year, with the video version available on August 5, 2020. We will postpone our celebration of the 50th anniversary of the BFMA and the tour until next year.

We were hoping that the restrictions regarding group sizes were going to ease this summer, so we held off on making this call until now. Unfortunately, these restrictions are still in place, and with the size of the crowd we normally draw, it has become obvious that we cannot hold the event as planned.

However, the pandemic will not stop everything. We plan to host some small “turn row” style meetings at the site. More information about those opportunities will come shortly. The plots will be harvested, and the data will be available this fall and winter.

We want to thank the Coastal Cotton Gin, and DHT Farms, for their willingness to host the event this year.

Stay tuned for updates.

If you are an agribusiness and have sponsored the event before, there will be an opportunity to participate in the virtual edition of the event. More info shortly.
