A new coalition of agricultural associations has launched a campaign to oppose the proposed Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), also known as the "card check" bill.

In a news release, Agriculture for a Democratic Workplace unveiled its Web site with information and tools coalition members may use to contact legislators and voice their opposition to the EFCA.

At issue is a provision in the bill that would effectively eliminate National Labor Relations Board-supervised secret-ballot elections in favor of "card check," which the group said would enable unions to organize employees by convincing them to sign cards.

The new group is rooted in California and led by Western Growers, The California Farm Bureau and the California Grape and Tree Fruit League.

Among the 35 member organizations are the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, the National Chicken Council and the Arizona Cattle Feeder's Association.
