To protect the communities it serves, NC State Extension continues to review guidelines for in-person meetings and programming. Concerns about COVID-19 continue, with stories coming out of gatherings leading to outbreaks.

On July 9, 2020, Catawba County shared a case study showing the recent spread of COVID-19 in the county.

from the post by Jennifer McCracken, Catawba County Public Health Director

In Catawba County, we have seen a significant increase in the number of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past several weeks. While it is true that testing has increased, the reality is this: more people are getting sick in Catawba County. This has been largely driven by the spread of COVID-19 from infected individuals, most of whom were not yet aware they were sick, to people they know.

The Charlotte Observer covered the story, providing further context for the case study. Read the article, “Family gathering infects 41 people with the coronavirus, NC health official says” online.
