Tyson Foods Inc. is in the process of adding jobs at its Glen Allen, Va., poultry plant as the company implements a new production line at the facility, spokesman Gary Mickelson confirmed to Meatingplace.
"We're modifying part of our plant to produce products for some fast-food and deli customers," he said in an e-mail. "This new production is being phased in over the next several months, and we believe will result in the addition of more than 180 production jobs."
Mickelson added that interest in jobs at the plant has been strong, and the company already has hired 50 people for the additional positions.
Tyson eliminated some 190 positions at the Glen Allen plant in the spring of 2008. "However, because of normal job attrition, most of the affected people were able to return to work at the plant within a few months," Mickelson said.
The Glen Allen plant currently employs about 625 people.
