Friends,
During these unprecedented times, personal protective equipment (PPE) and other medical supplies are the key to our success in the fight against COVID-19.

To win this war, without being dependent on China, America needs to strengthen and grow the supply chain to not only combat any future waves of COVID-19, but to also prepare and respond to future public health emergencies.

That is why I’m fighting to build up America’s capacity to create and distribute medical supplies and PPE in order to end our dependency on China. I recently introduced legislation to incentivize manufacturers of critical supplies to strengthen supply chains and establish domestic reserves of critical medical supplies for future public health emergencies.

My legislation would authorize $500 million annually to implement a supply chain flexibility manufacturing program to:
• Create incentives for the domestic manufacture of medical supplies to enhance supply chain elasticity.
• Establish and maintain domestic reserves of critical medical supplies like personal protective equipment and diagnostic tests.
• Work with distributors of medical supplies to manage domestic reserves held by the Strategic National Stockpile by refreshing and replenishing supply stocks.

I believe as a nation we can pull our dependency from China and strengthen our capacity to produce more domestic PPE for our country and our great state of North Carolina.

Thank you for reading, and as always please reach out to my office if you have any questions or need help with a federal agency and please stay safe.
All the best,
Thom T
