He is survived by his loving mother, Hazel S. Hood of Southport; and two sons, Michael E. Burns of Wilson and Christopher K. Burns of Savannah, Georgia. George spent his early career as a vice president with the Bank of North Carolina and later dedicated his knowledge of banking to supporting North Carolina’s farmers with the USDA and FHA administrations.
