The state Division of Water Resources denied a permit to start work on the Mountain Valley Southgate pipeline this week, calling the project “unnecessary” and saying regulatory hold-ups make it not worth the environmental damage of starting work in North Carolina. “(T)he Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has issued a stop-work order on the currently incomplete MVP Mainline project,” Division Director Daniel Smith wrote to company representatives Tuesday, Aug. 11.
