President Donald Trump praised local farmers involved in a pandemic food program, announcing a $1 billion boost in aid, as well as offering support for the region’s Republican congressional district during an Aug. 24 visit to the Asheville area. While billed as a White House event, the visit happening on the first day of the Republican National Convention had many trappings of a campaign event with 1,000 supporters lining up to hear remarks of the president at the airport.
