OBSERVATIONS FROM THE FIELD Soil conditions are still very wet, delaying field work. This week growers harvested tobacco and corn for grain. Soybeans have not been cut yet due to high moisture levels and many fields show no leaf drop. Hay fields are wet and drying conditions are not good which is delaying harvest. Increased fire ant activity has been observed. – GRANVILLE
Very wet conditions halted corn and soybean harvest for 4-5 days. – PERSON
Recent rains has soil moisture levels recharged and in some cases preventing land preparation for wheat as well as hindering other field activities. Corn harvest is coming to completion but soybean fields are still very full. Cotton harvest has not yet started. Cabbage crop looks good. – PASQUOTANK
Cotton and peanut harvest has begun. Cotton yield is lower than anticipated while earlier planted peanuts are showing average yields. Late planted peanuts have not been dug. – CRAVEN
