The Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) is about to undertake a task that will draw attention throughout California if not the nation. That task is eliminating the mute swan population from Clear Lake. DFW officials will do so by killing the approximately 20 swans that have lived on the lake for a number of years. Why? Because the swans are classified as an invasive species.
The mute swan is an interesting bird. It isn’t native to American but to Europe.
