The Creighton University Rural Mainstreet Index just posted its highest index level in six months. While the index level climbed above growth neutral at 53.2 in October, it also shows that a recession continues in Rural America. Dr. Ernie Goss of Creighton University, the Economics Department Chair, says things are going in the right direction, but there is still a lot of work to do. “Certainly the Rural Mainstreet Index comes from a survey of bank CEOs in rural areas of ten states, primarily in the midsection of the country, and the overall index for October reached its highest reading since before the pandemic began; the highest index since January of this year, so we are moving forward."
