The Century Farm program is celebrating 50 years within the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The program strives to celebrate the hard work and achievements of North Carolina families who have kept their farm under family operation for 100 years or more. This year a celebration was to take place at the N.C. State Fair for these families, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that celebration has been postponed until 2021. However, these families work so hard to provide for the citizens of our state every day that we wanted to continue celebrating them this year virtually.

On Friday, Oct. 16, we began our 50 Days of Century Farms social media celebration series on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. For 50 days, we will feature one Century Farm family a day on these social media platforms. While this is nothing in comparison to an in person celebration, these families deserve to be recognized for all their hard work until life brings us together again. Tune in each day and join us in thanking these families and honoring their status as a Century Farm Family. See below for the first ten families being recognized as well as a message from North Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler on what these families not only mean to the department as a whole, but to him as a farmer.

3. Meadow Lane Farm – Louisburg, N.C.
4. Bowden Family Farm – Willow Springs, N.C.
5. Ketner Farms – Burlington, N.C.
6. Twiddle Dee Farms – Clinton, N.C.
7. Hillandale – Stokes County N.C.
8. Benson Family Farm – Angier, N.C.
9. Norris Farm – Boone, N.C.
10. Hopeful Acres Farm – China Grove, N.C.
