After a battle with Canine dilated cardiomyopathy, NC State's live mascot, Tuffy II, has passed away. The school announced on Tuesday morning that Tuffy II passed away in his sleep following four years with the program. Tuffy II's owner, Joe Downey, had previously posted a GoFundMe link about the live mascot's serious disease and noted that he was treated at the NC State Veterinary School ICU. After returning home on Monday afternoon, Downey reported that Tuffy II was "doing well," but he passed away later that evening.
