NC corn and soybean yields up, cotton and peanuts down

“North Carolina farmers have consistently provided essential information that help to determine the monthly yield forecasts as we progress through the harvest season each year” said Dee Webb, North Carolina State Statistician. “The information is invaluable to farmers and producers as well as others involved in the agricultural industry and shows the impact agriculture has in the state. We greatly appreciate their dedication to such high quality data.” 

Corn for grain • Yield estimate of 117 bushels per acre is up 6 bushels from last year’s yield of 111 bushels per acre. • Production forecast at 110.0 million bushels is up 7% from the 103.2 million bushels produced last year. • Harvested acres projected at 940,000 are up from the 930,000 acres harvested in 2019.

Cotton • Yield estimate of 819 pounds per acre is down 179 pounds from last year’s yield of 998 pounds per acre. • Production forecast at 580,000 bales is down 44% from last year’s production of 1 million bales. • Harvested acres projected at 340,000 are down from the 500,000 acres harvested in 2019.

Peanuts • Yield estimate of 4,100 pounds per acre is down 300 pounds from last year’s estimate of 4,400 pounds per acre. • Production forecast at 430.5 million pounds is down 4% from last year’s production of 448.8 million. • Harvested acres projected at 105,000 acres are up from the 102,000 acres harvested in 2019.

Soybeans • Yield estimate of 39 bushels per acre is up 4 bushels from last year’s yield of 35 bushels. • Production forecast at 61.2 million bushels is up 15% from last year’s production of 53.2 million bushels. • Harvested acres projected at 1.57 million acres are up 50,000 acres from last year.
