OBSERVATIONS FROM THE FIELD
Rainfall was above normal with reports of 1.5"-2". Temperatures
were above normal as well. Corn harvest continues. Pastures are
still in good condition with livestock happily grazing – JACKSON,
SWAIN

After a couple of days of above normal temperatures and sunny
weather, by midweek rain had moved in. Up to and greater than
4 inches rain had fallen and most fields became super saturated.
The biggest concerns were that soybeans harvest could not be
completed, and cover crops could not be planted due to wet fields.
– GRANVILLE

Heavy rains Thursday and Friday delayed harvest and many acres
of soybeans are still in the fields. – PERSON

Excessive rainfall (>5 inches in places) caused localized flooding
late last week. Some damage to newly seeded pastures reported
in the northern end of the county. Assessing possible additional
damage this week. – MOORE

Four to five inches of rain fell throughout the county last week. The
rains have made it too wet to complete cotton and soybean
harvests, as well as wheat planting. Wheat not yet emerged could
be at risk of poor stands due to the large amount of rainfall.
Cabbage harvest is underway and looking very good. –
PASQUOTANK

Late week rains shut down all field activity. Some soybeans acres
remain to be harvested. – PAMLICO

Widespread rainfall Wednesday through Friday brought between
5 to 10 inches across the county. – JOHNSTON

Areas of Wilson County received 10" of rain this past Wednesday
and Thursday. – WILSON

Delays in farm-work due to winds and 4-6 inches of rainfall from
tropical system Eta. – CRAVEN

Light rains early in the week followed by Tropical Storm Eta
has Pender County dealing with extremely wet
conditions. Weeklong rainfall totals ranged from 5" to 9". Rising
river floodwaters in central NC will keep rivers full and result in
slow drainage. The heavy rains are flooding low-lying soybean
fields. Wheat areas will require replanting. – PENDER

Excessive rain delayed field activates and several days of drying
will be needed to resume. – ROBESON
