This announcement was sent out by Dr. Margaret T. McGrath at Cornell University. I thought it would be of interest to many growers and Extension personnel in North Carolina. Day 1 they plan to focus on practical info for growers and Day 2 will be more science-oriented. Free, but registration is required.

Sweet Basil: Managing Basil Under Increasingly Challenging Conditions

Date: Thursday, December 10–Friday, December 11, 2020

Venue: A virtual Zoom Workshop

Welcome!

This workshop will address managing Downy Mildew (DM) and Fusarium (FOB) in basil with new resistant varieties, improving genetics and management practices, disease occurrence mapping, and implementing seed treatments. This meeting brings together basil researchers from the University of Massachusetts, Rutgers University, Cornell University, and the University of Florida most of whom are working together in a USDA/NIFA supported consortium. This workshop will reflect current work, understanding, discoveries, and challenges in the successful production of sweet basil in increasingly challenging times. This is a time to come together, reflect on progress, and listen and learn from each other’s observations. We invite commercial basil growers, serious gardeners, and those from the supportive seed and chemical control (organic and conventional) industry as well as other researchers and extension specialists to join us so we can all learn from each other as we forge our plans for Year 3 and see how our work can best support the issues we face.

The workshop will feature a series of presentations, Q&A, discussions, and more. For workshop details and registration (which is free but required) please use our online registration form.
