According to the study, unemployment increased more than 300% in the Triad from February to May, with the vast majority of the jump due to the pandemic. The Triad saw 31,194 people unemployed and an unemployment rate 3.7% in February. As the pandemic spread and forced businesses to close, whether permanently or temporarily, the number of unemployed reached more than 106,000 in May, resulting in a 13.3% unemployment rate.
