Union's card check legislation introduced in Congress
Story Date: 3/24/2009

Source:  North Carolina Pork Council, 3/20/09

The misleadingly titled "Employee Free Choice Act" (EFCA) has been re-introduced in Congress Under H.R. 1409 and S. 560, employees effectively lose their right to private-ballot elections. Under the bill, employers would be required to recognize a labor union if a majority of employees sign cards saying they want to join. Workers would lose their current right to a private ballot vote when determining whether or not to participate in a union. Employers and employees would also have all wages and working conditions determined by a federal arbitrator under a binding two-year agreement.

Call North Carolina's Senators and Representatives to let them know you are paying attention!

*Call Senator Kay Hagan at 202-224-8774 and tell her thank you for not signing on as a sponsor for S.560 and urge her to oppose Card Check because it is not right for North Carolina.

*Call and thank Senator Richard Burr for his support to keep jobs in North Carolina and for not co-sponsoring S,560 at 202-224-3154.
