Bill to curb rural suicides heads to president

Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Jon Tester, D-Mont., the only two farmers in the Senate, have successfully included their Seeding Rural Resilience Act – a bill aimed at curbing the rising rate of suicide in rural areas – as part of the National Defense Authorization Act, and is now headed to the President’s desk. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the suicide rate is 45% higher in rural America than in urban areas.
