Duke Energy’s North Carolina customers will save a combined $1.1 billion over the next 10 years under a settlement that requires the company to bear some of the costs of cleaning up coal ash, Attorney General Josh Stein announced Monday. “Coal ash is a 20th-century problem that we must put in our rearview mirror,” Stein said during a Zoom conference. “That means cleaning it up today and making sure these costs are not unfairly put on the backs of customers alone.” For more of this story, click here.
