Congratulations and a fond farewell to Carinthia Cherry, Ph.D., who left Extension at A&T on Feb. 12 to take the position of program coordinator in the Divison of Nutrition at the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). Cherry joined Extension at A&T in 2012, shortly after earning her Ph.D. in nutrition. As an Extension nutrition specialist, she provided leadership to programs that educate limited-resource youth, families, and individuals on the fundamentals of nutrition and healthy living. She was instrumental in developing Speedway to Healthy, a tool used to fight childhood obesity and poor health among children in North Carolina, and wss the lead Principal Investigator on a Walmart community grant that trains teenagers as nutrtion education mentors.

A warm welcome to Peter Coffey, who joined the Extension horticulture team on Feb. 1 as a research assistant to Horticulture Specialist Sanjun Gu, Ph.D. Coffey works with Gu on research supported by an Evans-Allen grant through the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Office of Agricultural Research. Coffey came to NCAT from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he was an Extension agricultural agent and lab manger.
