Despite hard work by NC State Extension, the NCDA, Farm Bureau, and the North Carolina Soybean Producers Association to demonstrate a track record of responsible dicamba use in our state, on March 15, 2021, EPA officially denied NC 24(c) Special Local Need labels for Engenia, XtendiMax, and Tavium that would have moved the cut-off date for over-the-top applications of dicamba to July 31 for both cotton and soybean. With this rejection, the application cut-off dates in NC would return to dates imposed by the federal labels for these products. These dates, which will now go into effect for NC, are below.

North Carolina soybean growers have a strong track record of continuous improvements and responsible use of dicamba technology, even with a later season cut-off. This news is disappointing as extending the cut-off dates would have helped accommodate weed control in later planted soybeans. Great effort went into presenting our case to the EPA and we will continue to work to advocate for flexibility NC soybean growers for future years, but in the meantime, it is imperative NC growers follow the guidelines set by the EPA.
